After a successful run at ODC Theater in San Francisco, Monsoon Dance Company brings its second full-length evening work, Finding My Dha, to the vibrant community of Pleasanton.
Finding My Dha traces the intersection of Dha—a rhythmic space of inquiry—through Artistic Director and Choreographer Karishma’s personal narratives of liminality. Moving fluidly between Kathak and contemporary movement languages, the work maps a multicultural identity, shifting between vivid memories of a cultural past and the lived experiences of the present.
Through a rich blend of movement, dialogue, and theatrical elements, Finding My Dha explores themes of foreignness and belonging, continuity and transformation, and how identity evolves across cultures and generations. With the generous spirit of her collaborative dance artists, Karishma brings this deeply personal and resonant work to life.
This work was generously supported by the Kenneth Rainin Foundation Grant Award.
Concept Choreography: Karishma Sharma
Performing Artists: Maxine-Flasher Düzgüneş, Ruchi Gupta, Karishma Sharma, Poonam Singh, Zara Mehta, Ayesha Mehta
