ABOUT US
Pleasanton Youth Theatre Company is an in-house theatre program for youth run by The City of Pleasanton. Though we’ve been putting on productions for several years, 2019 marked the first year that we started to run year-round shows and theatre programming! Our programs offer an enriching and inclusive experience for young performers to explore the magical world of theater. Tailored to various age groups, our programs provide a safe and nurturing environment for children and teenagers to develop their acting skills, build confidence, and foster a love for the performing arts. Led by experienced theater professionals, our instructors guide participants through a range of theater techniques, including improvisation, character development, voice projection, stage movement, and script analysis. Through engaging workshops, rehearsals, and performances, students learn the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication. Our programs also emphasize creativity and self-expression, allowing young performers to explore their artistic potential and discover their unique voices. Additionally, our youth theater programs provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents in front of supportive audiences, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride. Whether participants aspire to pursue a career in theater or simply want to explore their creativity, our youth theater programs create a vibrant and inclusive community where young performers can grow, learn, and create unforgettable memories. PYTC Main Stage
Our Main Stage program is the next step in your musical theater journey!
We are thrilled to announce that our 2024-25 Season for the Main Stage! Our Fall Show is Anastasia Youth Edition directed by Jeff Zavattero, and our Spring Show is Legally Blonde JR directed by Mackenzie McDonald! These shows are audition-based only, so you must sign up for auditions to be considered to be cast in this show. Casting is not guaranteed.
From Tony winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, creators of such Broadway classics as Ragtime and Once On This Island, this dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.

The show’s instantly recognizable songs are filled with humor, wit and sass — leaving cast members and audiences alike seeing pink!
Legally Blonde JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she’s not “serious” enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

The Spongebob Musical Youth Edition
A one-hour edition of the hit musical, specially tailored for young actors!
Plunge into this stunning all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show! When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.

Our Sparks and Lil Sparks programs are a great start into your musical theater journey! For new and experienced performers, participants will learn musical theater skills while rehearsing and performing for a musical performance!
Winnie the Pooh KIDS
Disney’s Winnie the Pooh KIDS is a delightful show based on the beloved characters of A.A. Milne and the 2011 Disney animated feature film. Featuring favorite songs from the film, as well as new hits by the Academy Award-winning Robert and Kristen Lopez (Frozen), this honey-filled delight is as sweet as it is fun.
Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals, Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship and, of course… sharing snacks.
Filled with all of their favorite characters, Disney’s Winnie the Pooh KIDS is a favorite for children to perform. There is ample opportunity for adding a large ensemble and filling your stage with as many creatures of the Hundred Acre Wood as possible.

High School Musical Auditions are LIVE!
Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical comes to life on your stage! Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities.
It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.
Disney’s High School Musical is fun for the whole family. Its large cast size and upbeat numbers make it the ideal show for middle and high school productions or the highlight of any community theatre’s season!
Please prepare 32 bars (approximately 1 minute) of a contemporary musical theater or Disney Channel Original song that best shows off your vocal and acting abilities.
Additionally, please prepare a 1 minute contemporary monologue to further display your acting abilities.
Participants must be 12 or older as of June 1, 2024 to audition

Flashpoint Players
Xanadu JR. is inspired by the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical and the Universal Pictures’ cult classic movie that starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Xanadu JR. is a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep audiences in stitches while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift them out of their seats. There is a culminating performance on July 19 & 20.
Sparks Players & Lil Sparks
Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs before Dark KIDS is an adaptation of the first of Mary Pope Osborne’s award-winning fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House book series, which has sold more than 100 million copies and is available in more than 100 countries around the world. Jack and Annie’s tree house transports them back in time to the age of the dinosaurs, where the siblings courageously learn that things are not always what they seem.
Sparks Players
Join Sparks Players and experience the thrill of putting on a spectacular show! With a welcoming environment for kids of all experience levels, our dedicated staff will guide and inspire them to collaborate, sing, dance, and act their way to a memorable musical production. Auditions and casting happen within the class, and participants work towards a 30 minute production of The Magic Treehouse: Dinosaurs Before Dark! Performances occur July 12-13, 2024.

Discover the magic of theater with our Lil Sparks! Designed for young kids, this engaging experience provides a fun introduction to the world of theatrical production, allowing them to explore their creativity and imagination while preparing for an exciting performance with our Sparks Players in their production of The Magic Treehouse: Dinosaurs Before Dark.

Theater Arts Intensives
New and experienced young performers will add to their performing arts tool belts as Summer Drama Camp staff facilitate a variety of theater activities designed to educate, inspire, and foster cooperation. Face coverings are required for this fun and engaging camp. There is a ticketed culminating performance with Teen Playwrights on July 19 & 20!

Our Pleasanton Youth Theater Camp teaches participants vocal techniques as they add new songs to their personal songbook!
Improv
Learn Improv, the Creatures of Impulse way!
Short Form Improv
Students will have a fantastic time in this camp designed to teach improv the Creatures of Impulse way. Improv games, scenes, and laughter are a huge part of this fun and engaging 1-week camp. We will be building towards a culminating performance involving games and scenes presented by our improvisers!
Long Form Improv
Learning to tell stories through strong characters and multiple scenes, connecting them with a common reality will be the main focus of this class. We will be building towards working on a long form improv show – a completely improvised short play, with a culminating performance.
Technical Theater
Work with our trained technical theater staff to see what goes into designing our Summer Drama Camp shows, and help bring them to life!
Stage Craft & Set Design
High school students will be directly involved with designing, paining, and assembling the set and props for both Drama Camp musicals and Teen Playwright’s Summer Workshop.
Stage Lighting & Sound
High school students will learn the basics for lighting and sound for the stage and apply that knowledge to supporting the upcoming Summer Drama Camp productions.
Stage Production Crew
Students in this camp will apply what they have learned in previous weeks of Teen Tech Camps to immerse themselves in the various technical aspects of all three summer musicals.
