Chandana Srinath

Chandana Srinath

“Kurmam” is Tortoise in Sanskrit and it is believed that it is one of the first forms of life on earth. It symbolizes perseverance and intelligence. In this rendering, I tried to showcase fresh beginnings by depicting a Tortoise and surrounding it with other forms of life. I chose to do a fusion art of Madhubani and Gond for this painting. Bright colors and symmetric patterns represent nature at its best.

My work expresses native Folk art from different parts of India. It showcases nature intertwined with humans. My work mostly depicts birds, animals, nature and way of life. It’s composed of intricate patterns and vibrant colors. It includes different styles of painting such as Warli, Gond, Madhubani, Pithora, and others. I’ve been doing this kind of art from my childhood. Mostly, I used natural colors like turmeric, charcoal, rice flour, hibiscus on paper but lately I’ve been using acrylic and oil colors.
